What to include in a baby’s first-year memory book

The first year moves fast and blurs together. These are the details parents most often wish they had written down.

  1. 1. The day they arrived

Where you were, who came first, the weather, the name you nearly chose. Write it within the first few weeks, while it’s still clear.

  2. 2. One photo a month

Same spot, same time of day if you can. Twelve photos side by side show a year of growing in a way no single picture can.

  3. 3. Firsts, with a date

First smile, first food, first word, first steps — whenever they happen. A date and a sentence is plenty.

  4. 4. The people who visited

Grandparents, aunties, friends who brought food. Your child will want to know who was there from the beginning.

  5. 5. Favourite things

The song that calmed them, the toy they wouldn’t sleep without, the food they refused. These change month to month.

  6. 6. A note from you

A few lines to your child about this first year. It is often the page they treasure most.
